It is worth noting that there is a difference between digitalization and digitization. Digitization is converting from analogue to digital whilst digitalization refers to leveraging on digital technology for the advances of human information and communication technologies (Fielke, Taylor and Jakku, 2019). In agriculture, digitalization refers to the uses of several high-tech apparatuses which is used to gather data that informs farmer of “site-specific and informed management decisions “(Rotz et al, 2019, p.114). Fielke, Taylor and Jakku notes these significant changes in traditional agriculture in conjunction with digital technology includes “real-time monitoring through sensors, big data, the Internet of Things, machine learning and cloud computing (Fielke, Taylor and Jakku, 2019).
